Another non-school lockdown was announced in my country two days before the 4th of January 2021. And when my secondary school switched to the Microsoft Teams platform to do the schooling, it arose many issues for me.
This is not my first time doing online school, I did this form of education back in the last few months of primary school, A.K.A the huge lockdown. However that was on the platform known as Seesaw and Teams differs tremendously to that concept of primary online teaching.
As a bit of background, my school had started using teams last year during the immense lockdown and the staff had always felt that there would be another lockdown so they kept Teams. And they were correct. We were told to send in our homework ever since we began secondary on Teams so we were used to the basic strategy of the platform. However, when we converted full time to the online teaching via the Teams platform, various/numerous issues began to occur.
Let us begin with the statistic of overload. If you are unfamiliar with MS Teams first of all, instead of homework, you send in a photograph of the assigned obhair (Gaelige for 'work'), into the assignment set by your teacher. The assignments were rather hectic and abrupt in coordination to the concept of a new person to the platform. Allow me to explain. I was 'new' to Microsoft Teams and the assignments were rather difficult to keep up with. I desired to go to sleep early as per each night, yet with another quick glance at Teams a tremendous quantity of assignments were due that night. It was tiresome, what ca I say?. The assignments kept on overflowing and my brain cells overloaded. It was difficult to actually obtain the sources of data/information when so many of the assignments were due. Upon deeper inspection it was crystal clear to me that I certainly was not the only individual in depth of a workload tackling online schooling. Plenty of my classmates spoke up personally about their issues with the amount/quantity of obhair being produced rapidly and my younger cousin and younger sister felt the exact same way about the immense workload.
Online school is as though as rocks, however together we can make it through this.
